Wilkie Wages War: Time passes . . . (September 2007-February 2008)

Environmental Health Network leader Barbara Wilkie discovered in July 2005 that her chemical injury/multiple chemical sensitivities had suddenly manifested as stage 4 (later stage 5) kidney disease (kidney failure). Despite dire warnings of death within a year, she eschewed dialysis and Western Medicine drugs and took a route of alternative medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and strict dietary changes. She lived well for six years, far beyond the doctors’ predictions.  Barb died at home, surrounded by friends and family, on May 31, 2011.

During this time, Barb documented her journey. From diagnosis through June 2008, she created one huge website page packed with details, plus some side documents on diet and other topics.  We have divided these works into smaller pieces, by date or topic, to make it easier to read and find things.  For dates after June 2008, we have letters, online posts, and other documents.

Barb intended her work to be read and used. We hope this presentation will help you do just that.

OR, AS I SEE IT: Life with yet another facet of living with MCS.
I want to live life while dying.

Time passes . . .

Well now, it is really February 2008 and I’ve recently gotten a replacement keyboard, which was my excuse for not keeping up with my kidney numbers.

In looking back to September 2007, the last month of numbers I had put up for you, I now realize that what I thought was bad then, happens to be something I’d like to revisit these days. Yes, my numbers have gotten worse. However, I’m still active, still enjoying the family and am still very, very happy that I did not listen to a nephrologist — not one of the four I had seen. I am convinced that if I had taken drugs as commanded, I would surely have further poisoned my kidneys and body with their drugs.

Admittedly, it was difficult to withstand not only their fear mongering, but also their death
sentences for me. Hell, even cancer patients are given some hope to try to beat their
disease, but HOPE seems not to be in the lexicon of the nephrologist — maybe because all
the nephrologists are trained to do is to further poison the body with drugs and dialysis.

In any case, because I was already chemically injured — Honest to God, here’s where I say
YEAH! for MCS (the disability that cannot say its name out loud) — I already knew my
body reacted adversely to petrochemical derived drugs . . . as well as all products
containing petrochemically derived flavors and fragrances, pesticides and the like. I had to
rise above their death sentences and fear mongering, and as a result, in early February
2008, I can report that not only have I lived past the last “dead”line I plan to be given, but
also enjoyed the family visits at the beginning of 2008.

So now to play “ketchup” with the kidney information.
