- Some say a popular perfume is a health danger!!
"... Dr. Jacob Offenberger is an Allergist; "No manufacturer would like to sell any product
that has real toxins in it or real irritants in it because it won't sell." Dr. Jacob Offenberger is spokesperson for the Asthma Foundation of America. He says some people are just
sensitive to perfume chemicals....and they are blowing this issue out of proportion. ..."

This was originally a TV-news story out of Los Angeles around Valentine's Day 2000 in response to Dr. Epstein and EHN's joint press release, Perfume: Cupid's Arrow or Poison Dart? Don't you just love Dr. Offenberger's take on perfume poisoning? He conveniently ignores the adverse effects upon people with asthma and other lung diseases, the possible effects of commonly used phthalates -- they make the scent last -- on developing male fetuses, adult sperm, and commonly used musks, which store in adipose tissue, including breasts, to flow downstream from there into the nursing infant. There is far too much that is not known
about the industry's chemicals except that they have not been adequately tested for their neurotoxic effects, nor for effects folloiwn long-term use or exposure to those used by others. Nor have they been tested for inhalation, yet fragrance chemical concoctions are highly volatile and formulated to be inhaled by untold numbers of people at great distances. At some point, it is going to be important to start examining what these superfluous toxins are doing to us, to our future generations, and to the wildlife with whom we share this planet. In my opinion, THAT is more important than growing out a multibillion dollar industry.-- barb
