Marin Beyond Pesticides, and The Marin Health Council presents An evening with Dr. Ana Soto
Tuesday, Septembr 26, 2000
By Louise Yost The Marin Breast Cancer Watch, Marin Beyond Pesticides, and The Marin Health Council are proud to present an evening with Dr. Ana Soto. Dr. Soto is the original researcher who discovered the link between certain chemicals in the environment, and their ability to mimic estrogen in the body. Dr. Soto will be appearing at the Marin Civic Center on September 26 at 7pm, in the County Board of Supervisors Chambers, Room 329 in the Administration Building. Admission is free. Dr. Soto is a scientist with Tuft University School of Medicine, and a world renowned cellular biologist. She will speak about her journey to discover the synthetic estrogen p-nonylphenol, a chemical that is thought to cause cancer. P-nonylphenol is routinely used in food processing and packaging, PVC tubing, detergents and contraceptive creams. Dr. Soto contends that the omnipresence of environmental estrogens is most likely a factor in explaining the constant increase in the rates of breast cancer. For further info, call Marin Breast Cancer Watch at 415-256-9011, or check out their website at www.breastcancerwatch.org . Their email is mbcw@earthlink.net
