Hi, Barbie -- Top left is a piece of Missouri bubble type of quartz. I do not know the real terms but it has a bubble look to it. I Smashed the Stuff outta a large chunk and then applied mister MAX ZAP to it with Borax, beryllium copper & cobalt chloride. The next one (top row) was sand with remnants of quartz fused into it. Middle row, left side is a piece of sandstone with imbedded quartz. I can only suspect the coloration is due to titanium, copper, & sandstone reaction in the presence of borax. In the same row (right column) is another piece of the same sandstone with more cobalt chloride applied. The bottom one is a ROCK & I got lucky with the color. It is the PITS when you do not know exactly what the final result will be! As I have said, quartz appears to be the best for doing this coloring. Any calcium related minerals do not fair well -- neither do wasps, moths or yellow jackets! Love, Bob |
